Data Stewardship: Developing a Data Reuse Strategy for Public Problems, a Data Stewards Academy executive education course, is now accepting applicants for its third cohort due to begin in March 2022. This round is targeting responsible data leaders from across sectors based in the Eastern Hemisphere. The course is part of The GovLab’s Open Data Policy Lab, with support from Microsoft. It is designed to help data stewards—responsible data leaders in the public and private sector—who are interested in developing a data reuse strategy for their institution. Noting the ways data resources can inform their day-to-day and strategic decision-making, we teach participants ways they can use data to improve how they operate and pursue goals in the public’s interests. Check out the testimonials from participants in both the first and second cohorts.

“The course combines methodology and application for an immediate ‘return on investment’ at all stages of data use strategy and implementation.” — Karen Hampton, Oregon Health Authority

The Data Stewards Academy executive education was designed and implemented by program leads Stefaan Verhulst, co-founder and chief research development officer at the GovLab, and Andrew Young, The GovLab’s knowledge director, in close collaboration with a global network of expert faculty and advisors.

APPLY HERE BY MONDAY, JANUARY 31

The course intends to attract and develop highly talented aspiring data stewards who are interested in better incorporating data reuse into their operations. While an application is free, participation will be limited to a small cohort who work concretely on data collaboration issues or are tasked by their organization to act as data stewards. Ideal applicants will have several years of experience in a leadership role and demonstrate the capacity to work across sectors. The upcoming cohort will be specifically geared toward learners in the Eastern Hemisphere, and thus we encourage data leaders based in the MENA region, Central and East Africa, and the Asia-Pacific in particular to apply.

“With the Data Stewards Executive Program, I was able to bootstrap our data-sharing project into a more cohesive, real-world solution to tackle collaboration among organizations.” — Jorge Alvarado, Swisscom

Candidates are invited to apply until Monday, January 31, 2022. We will notify accepted applicants soon after. The course is free of charge, but admission is a selective process based on your professional achievement and organizational responsibilities.

Please Note: If you applied during the application period for previous cohorts, you will be considered automatically for the upcoming opportunity. If you’d like to update your application or share new materials, please do so through the linked application form.

“Studying and reflecting always favors opportunities to grow and when you do it with the guidance of such expert people and walk side by side with colleagues who are experiencing similar challenges, what is generated is a vibrant digital agora that offers valuable insights.” — Sergio Carrera Riva Palacio, National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Mexico
